How to Safely Pack Jewelry for Travel
I used to throw all my jewelry in a bag and stuff it into my suitcase, but this – unsurprisingly – turned out to be the worst way to store necklaces and bracelets. I showed up at a destination with a tangled knot and didn’t have the patience or time to spend untangling it. Here are some tips to help you avoid the mess I’ve gotten into too many times.
Use a straw
For necklaces that are not too bulky, you can use a straw to prevent them from breaking or rolling into a ball in irritation.
After unfastening the necklace and slipping one end into the straw, snap it back into place. After you snap it in, you can wrap the necklaces in plastic wrap.
Plastic wrap bag
Place each necklace on a layer of plastic wrap about an inch apart, then lay another sheet on top. Kind of like necklaces in a blanket. You can then roll them up until they fit snugly inside the package and repack them wherever you want.
Shut up
A great tip for watch wearers is to use a pair of sports socks. Simply roll up one sock and snap the watch around it, then place it in the second sock. You can then put it in a side pocket or between items such as denim to keep it from sliding or breaking.
Use a pill box
The pills are so easy to find at any pharmacy. They are often rectangular in shape with the days of the week indicated on each section. These cases are great for separating rings and smaller earrings.
If the inside of the pill box is split when you close the box, no matter how your bag shakes, nothing will fall out, break, or get tangled in another piece of jewelry.
