How to Pin Comments to Your Instagram Posts
Comment threads areMos Eisley on the web, and social media comment sections are some of the worst , especially for posts from popular accounts. To create a more positive atmosphere, Instagram now allows you to pin up to three comments at the top of your posts – we implore you to pick a few good ones.
Pinned comments can be your own or from other subscribers / commenters. Once a comment is pinned, it will sit at the top of the comment thread regardless of when it was posted. This will be the featured comment that users see when they scroll through their feed, and the first comment they see when they open the thread.
While Instagram is promoting this as a way to curate a conversation , pinned comments can also be used to add additional information to the post. For example, you can post and pin an update to announce the winner of the draw (assuming you do something like this on Instagram).
This feature is currently rolling out to iOS and Android users. I also checked to see if it is available in the desktop version of the browser, but haven’t seen it yet; it will likely not show up as many of Instagram’s mobile features have not carried over to the desktop website – at least for a while.
To pin comments on Instagram:
- Open the Instagram app and go to one of your posts.
- Scroll through the comments until you find the one you want to show at the top.
- Swipe left on a comment, then tap the button icon .
- Instagram will give you a quick summary of how pinned comments work and ask if you’d like to pin a comment. Click “Post Comment”.
- The comment will now be at the top of the thread. You can repeat this for three pinned comments.
If you want to unpin a comment, just swipe again, tap the button icon, and delete it. However, this does not remove or hide the comment from other parts of the thread.
We can’t say if sticky comments will actually reduce toxicity, but they can at least hide the arguments and trolls a little.
