Learn How to Make Bee-Friendly Gardens in This Free Online Workshop
Gardening has become another popular pastime along with knitting, puzzles and baking. Seed sales have skyrocketed, and whether the people in the city have a huge backyard or a tiny fire escape, they crawl into the weeds (mostly to pull them out).
Perhaps you want to take it a step further and make your plants or garden more attractive to bees. We know that the bee population is shrinking and that we need these little workers to help us grow our food, so when you think about it, creating an inviting place to visit them is a good thing. But where do you start? Of course, by attending classes on the Internet!
How to get to the master class
Tomorrow (Saturday, July 4th), the City Council of Hume (based in Australia) will host a free online seminar entitled “Beautiful Bee Abundance: A Workshop on Creating Bee-Friendly Gardens” at 8:30 pm. EST. Katrina Forstner will be an instructor and will talk about the following topics:
- Landscaping for bees
- Best bee-friendly plants
- How to store seeds
- 2 min sage / rosemary breeding
- Bee hotels
She will also provide additional resources and answer questions at the end of the session. Register here to attend a free seminar.

Want more to do? Check out this article by our Senior Health Editor, Beth Skorecki . She offers suggestions including :
Creating a bee-friendly habitat is more than just planting flowers. If you spray pesticides on or near flowers, bees are again in danger, so you need to know what you (or your lawnmower) are spraying. The [Society] Xerses [Society for the Conservation of Invertebrates] would like you to sign the Pollinator Oath, I swear that you will give up insecticides and that you will grow plants that feed bees and other pollinators (such as butterflies and their caterpillars) year round.
Happy landing!
