How to Find Severe Weather Alerts in the Google News App
Usually you know when bad weather is approaching you, whether you have looked up into the sky to see the ominous gray-green hue of a summer thunderstorm, you have a quirky app similar to Dark Sky that warns you of a meteorological disaster. is approaching, or you’ve read the news, i.e. Google News.
It has always been easy to find the weather in Google News whether you are using an app or website. I mean, you really can’t miss this:
But in an effort to help keep you a little safe during the thunderous summer months, the joy of the hurricane season and the winter chills that linger on the horizon, Google has now put a severe weather indicator in the Google News app.
The best part? You don’t need to do any additional “checks” other than simply using Google News. If the weather in your area is bad or you are heading towards it, you will receive a small warning that looks something like this:

You can then tap to see a warning about who is responsible for this – in this case the National Meteorological Service – where you can get even more information about the disaster that awaits you.
If you don’t see this severe weather warning, here’s the good news: you are having a beautiful day, or at least one that is annoying enough, stuffy or wet, and not a disastrous one. If you disagree or feel like your personal version of Spider Sense is causing a hurricane, make sure you are using the most recent version of Google News from the App Store or Google Play Store . That should be all you need to do to unlock these new alerts, if available for your region.
