Start Your Day With Morning Cartoons
Morning routines are an important way to start your day and increase your productivity. We talk a lot about productivity here , and for good reason: we have things to do, goals and deadlines. A few years ago, I had a solid morning routine of standard adult meals – alarm clock, hot drink, exercise. As my age and responsibilities grew, it evolved to include mindfulness practices, and subsequently became less of a way to set me up for a productive day, but more of an annoying responsibility. By 8 a.m. I had to get dressed, walk the dog, check my work calendar, clean my workplace, plan my day, meditate, blah blah blah .
And it worked, if by “worked” you meant that it gave me a sense of accomplishment on the rare occasions when I was able to complete all my tasks. The alarm was a shot at the starting line that made me sprint to the carp.
I recently started working on a book. The book’s theme – 80s and 90s cartoons and pop culture – made me return to a kids show that I hadn’t seen in years. My general lack of time forced me to change my morning schedule to match my new homework: I watched cartoons every morning from 6 to 7. And it was unexpectedly magical, to put it mildly.
If your childhood was something like mine, you woke up in a world of wonders – not games or promises of adventure at school, but the magic of morning cartoons. Do you remember? Can you remember your morning lineup, maybe even the airtime of your favorite shows? As I began to draw up my morning cartoon schedule, I realized that I desperately missed something that resembled the joy at the beginning of the day. I forgot this miracle.
After I completed my homework – revised “War of animals”, “Superkroshek” “Gargoyles,” “Doug” and many others – I decided to continue. I would watch new cartoons – Craig from Scream , She-Ra , We Bare Bears , Haikyuu !! – to keep the feeling that I came across as an adult. As well as reading below your reading level , I’ve found that watching fun and less difficult TV shows is a great way to start your day with extra joy – a mixture of lightheadedness and nostalgia. Thanks to the cartoon routine on weekday mornings, I found the mornings to look a little brighter.
An unexpected pleasure came from watching old cartoons with mature eyes. Some of them aged exceptionally well, exploring topics that I could not – and probably could not – grasp as a child. The rest … well, the street sharks didn’t get better; “They are what we thought they were,” he quotescoach Dennis Green’s famous 2006 tirade . But they all brought me happiness for a small price, the best episodes of Batman: The Animated Series demanded my full attention, while the worst episodes of Exosquad played against the backdrop of the rest of my morning routine.
So what was your favorite children’s cartoon? What gave you that sense of adventure when you watched the movie before school? Most likely its episodes are available on YouTube or via a streaming subscription service. Allow yourself to wake up and dodge your responsibilities for half an hour. Is it a sense of adventure? It will hit you anyway. If you think your morning is tough, or you just want to start the day a little happier, start with a cartoon, old or new. Achievements may come later – you will still perform better when you feel a little happier.
