Is This Egg a Full Breakfast?
I am a passionate person and one of my many passions is breakfast sandwiches. This is one of those rare foods that tastes good no matter what your price tag. Cheap BEC with the finest and fragile bacon and American cheese on white toast is as excellent as a perfectly cooked poached egg with homemade bacon and cheddar in cloth on a bakery croissant. The combination of bread, eggs, meat and cheese is the perfect formula that will never let you down, and it bothers me a little when one of these essential elements is removed.
The snack we’re trying today (which we first saw in a tweet ) eliminates the bread and replaces it with a hard-boiled egg cut in half to form the bite of a carb-free breakfast with cheese and bacon in the middle. I don’t mind the protein substitute concept, but overall I prefer the protein to be something like a breaded fried chicken cutlet rather than a slippery egg.
In this case, when you put away the bread, the sandwich will be harder to hold, creating a salty, greasy, dense protein bomb. And while I’m a bit of a salty, greasy, thick protein bomb myself, I don’t appreciate removing the bread – which is great – for no apparent reason. Unless you’re some keto caveman (or out of bread), I really didn’t see the need for this particular BEC configuration.
At the same time, this “sandwich” surprised me. I made some changes – because I have to be myself! – while our senior video producer Joel Kahn tried the original version posted on Twitter. I agree with you – this egg thing took me on a journey . Watch the video to see our thoughts, feelings and facial expressions, as well as (I think) the much needed changes I’ve made. And, if you’re going to try this at home, be sure to bring a glass of water.
