Take Your Chromecast With You on Your Next Vacation

While you may not travel as often these days, there is one popular new travel accessory to take with you on every trip: the Google Chromecast.

My fiancé and I spent most of the past month at his family’s Michigan home. Since we had been there for so long, we had some of the things he received for work sent straight to their home, one of which was a gift box with the new Google Chromecast. This little device turned out to be a godsend for the three weeks we spent in the suburbs with no cable TV or smart TV in the bedroom.

Upon our return, we set up a Chromecast in our apartment and then immediately took it with us to Airbnb for Labor Day weekend. This is the only accessory you need for lazy entertainment away from home.

Many Airbnbs (or hotels) offer smart TVs that allow you to sign in to Netflix or other streaming services. However, this means that you need to a) remember all your passwords, b) maneuver the remote control to enter your very long username and password, c) receive an email notification that a new login has been made to your account, and d) make sure to log out before leaving. You do it all, and your Smart TV system might not even have all of your preferred streaming services.

The Chromecast, by contrast, is tiny and easy to package. It plugs into a TV’s HDMI port on one end and a power outlet on the other with just one cord. All you have to do is connect it to Wi-Fi once and then stream directly from your apps to your phone. That’s all! No login details, no passwords, and when you leave, you just turn it off and take it home. As long as you have a TV with an HDMI port, you will never have to be bored on vacation again.
