Children’s Culture Guide for Adults: the Sweater Weather Edition for Adults
Starbucks sells pumpkin spice lattes. The days are getting shorter. America is sliding into a chaotic spiral of death from which it may never recover. In other words, it’s autumn! So put on a cozy sweater and get ready for a real fall guide.
Unexpected trend of the week: voting
If you hear a group of older teens talk about the new “voting” trend, don’t be alarmed and call the police: it’s a harmless quirk that should go away in a week or so. But for now, children all over the country have depraved voting parties, and they “go, vote, buddy, the lights are on!” messages go all over Instagram, TikTok, and BingBong (I came up with this).
Oddly enough, it looks like it actually works . According to the LA Times , over 6.8 million people between the ages of 18 and 29 have already “voted to vote” (with MTV? Remember that shit?) In person or by mail. This is 2.5 times more than in 2016. It’s impossible to tell yet, but in states as close as Texas or Florida, increased youth turnout could turn elections upside down. As you probably guessed, political scientists expect the vast majority of young people to vote for Kanye West because he is a rapper. (Not really. They are expected to vote for Joe Biden, who is also a rapper.)
TikTok accused of lack of yarn in the country; grandma, playful cats are inconsolable
I love reporting dangers and panics on TikTok. The excitement this week has to do with yarn. My best TikTok spy, my teenage niece Claire, pointed out to me the national short yarn shortage caused by TikTok influencers. So what are the kids doing with all this yarn? Do they somehow enjoy it, use it to cyber-bully each other, or are they just trying to piss off playful kittens? Nope, kids use it for knitting .
By the looks of it, “hand knitting” (ie knitting without needles) is the most popular thing on the TT, and a trend so popular that bulky, thick yarns are sold in craft stores across the country. As far as fall trends go, it makes sense: it takes a lot of time, you can do it inside, and you end up with a nice warm blanket at the end. Cosy!
Viral Video of the Week: Among Us as a Reality Show
I promise to stop talking about Among Us soon, but first please enjoy thisparody of the video featuring Among Us a reality show on television. Produced by the YouTube comedy group Laugh at Life, this video contains jokes you won’t understand unless you play Among Us, and a bunch of quirky cameos from pop culture icons like Jason Friday the 13th . »Voorhees and Buzz. Light year. It has been viewed nearly 4 million times in the past few days.
This Week in Video Games: Watch Dogs: Legion
Watch Dogs: Legion is the biggest video game release this week. This huge, addictive, innovative open world action game is the perfect game to start playing and keep playing. This will keep players entertained until winter is over, or until we find a vaccine, or until the Earth slips out of its orbit and heads towards the sun. Watch Dogs: Legion is set in the not-too-distant future, in a dystopian London, where you can hire anyone you want to join your gang and then use them to complete missions and more. Essentially, an entire city is the protagonist of a story in which people use technology to suppress the culture of their corporate overlords and restore humanity, hacking in one go. Play it on Microsoft Xbox One or PlayStation 4 from Sony Corporation. (But don’t copy or share it. It’s illegal!)
On TV This Week: The Mandalorian Returns
The kids in your life probably don’t even know that there were times in the recent past when television networks waited until fall to air all shows instead of just airing them on some random day. The release of the second season of The Mandalorian on Disney + is a throwback to the days when TV series were events . This is the kind of TV show that everyone loves. This isn’t just for nerds, man. It’s a family hangout and TV viewing – the best Star Wars since 1970s Star Wars . Highly recommended.
