How to Use the New Instagram Stories Archive Map
Instagram stories live a paltry 24 hours – at least in public. But the app actually keeps a private archive of all your old posts that you can access at any time and revive them in your Highlights profile. Digging through your entire history post archive to highlight highlights can be tricky, but Instagram has a new location-based filter that shows all of your past posts with location tags on a single map screen.
The new Instagram Stories Map is part of the latest app update available for iOS and Android. After updating the app, you can find the story map as follows:
- Open Instagram and go to your profile.
- Tap the three-line hamburger menu icon.
- Select “Archive” to view your post history. This menu has three tabs: All Messages (listed in chronological order), Calendar View (allows you to view messages by a specific date), and the Location tab.
- Tap the location tab to see the map where you posted your stories to. (Pinned locations are where you tagged a photo or video, not the metadata of the original photo .)
While in the location tab, you can pinch the screen to zoom out on the map, expand to zoom in, and press pins on the map to see your history messages. Zoom gestures help when you have multiple story posts filmed in a specific location and need a more accurate view.
You can also use the location view to create new plots based on location:
- Tap a location on the map to open the entries you want to add.
- In the bottom menu, select “Select”.
- Edit the name of the highlight.
- Click “Add” to add all photos and videos to your favorites collection and publish it to your profile.
If you cannot find the publication on the map, most likely you have not marked the location. Fortunately, messages without location tags still appear in the timeline and calendar tabs, where you can view and add them to the highlights collections.
