Avoid Impulse Purchases by Disabling 1-Click Ordering on Amazon
Before your wallet runs out of Amazon Prime Day on October 13th this year, it’s advised to disable One-Click purchases on your Amazon account. It’s worth it if it helps you avoid shoppers’ remorse – research has shown that impulse purchases increased by 18% at the start of the pandemic – most of them online, on Amazon, thanks to one-click purchases.
Amazon’s patented 1-Click is ingenious and convenient, of course without a virtual shopping cart that would normally allow you to preview your items before making a purchase. But it’s worth considering that, according to a number of studies, the average shopping cart abandonment rate is about 69%. What does it mean? In the time it takes to click “checkout” and view the cart, 31% of people find a reason not to make a purchase.
And this is good! Thinking soberly is always a good idea when you are spending money, and it takes more than the time it takes to click a mouse. (In fact, waiting 24 hours is usually a good rule of thumb to follow for your discretionary purchases if you’re trying to cut your spending.)
To Amazon’s credit, they recently made it easy to disable settings with one click : 1. In your Amazon account, find “ Accounts & Lists ” in the upper right corner of the screen and select “ My Account ” from the drop-down menu. 2 . Then, in the lower left corner of the screen, in the Order and Purchase Settings section, click on “ One-Click Settings ”. 3. You will be taken to the ” My Payments ” screen; the option to disable 1-Click will be in the upper right corner.
