It’s Time to Restore Your Health
It has been six long, almost seven months since the closure and lockdown pandemic began. Remember those first few weeks when staying at home was new and social media was full of homemade loaves of bread ? Well, it’s starting to get old.
Chances are, spending more time at home quietly affects your health. Many of us exercise less, eat and sleep during late hours, burn out and lose social connections. Even if you’re doing well in some of these areas, come with us and see if we can fix some things while we settle in for the winter and maybe a lot more indoor hours.
Every Friday I post a weekend assignment and you tweak a few things (or maybe completely rethink your approach) in one area of your health. We’ll also have a calendar that will give you a tiny hint for each day – stay tuned for next week’s updates.
And by the way: as long as we call it a reset, we don’t mean diet. I will not say what is or what size. I’ll just push you to take care of your health.
This week’s assignment: Make some appointments
We’ll start with the medical aspect of your health. Chances are, you’ve missed or postponed several appointments since the beginning of the year. Maybe some of them don’t matter, but it’s time to take stock of the ones that do.
First, make sure you get the flu shot , as well as any other vaccines that may be prescribed . You can get most of them in a few minutes in the pharmacy and rid yourself of the opportunity to be ill than – the other during a pandemic.
If your child misses a check-up, make sure they are keeping up with vaccinations or required examinations. Likewise, if you miss a check-up or other routine procedures such as brushing your teeth, call your doctor and ask if you should be examined. They may say “no, it’s okay, I’ll see you next year”; but if something is important to you, given your medical history, they can tell you about it.
One of the highlights of this pandemic is that service providers are discovering what they can do with telehealth (like video calls). You can make some of the visits in the same way as usual, in person: for example, for therapy.
And speaking of therapy, consider if you have any new health needs that you did not have before. Anxiety and depression are conditions that occur when people are under stress, and for many of us, this year has been an unprecedented source of stress. Find a therapist if you need one, or check out these free and cheap mental health resources .
So make a list of the vaccines, tests, or appointments you need and determine which ones are still your priority. Then write down those appointment requests or make a note to make a few calls on Monday morning. You will be glad you did.
