You Can Pre-Order the First Wired XR Glasses From XReal.

VR headsets may be a thing of the past. This morning at Google’s Android Developer Summit , XReal officially unveiled the XReal Aura XR—smart glasses with full XR capabilities. They run Android XR and use the Snapdragon Reality Elite processor, while the glasses themselves are powered by the XReal X1S chip. The result: Aura offers a 70° field of view while weighing less than 95 grams.

Customers in the US, Canada, Japan, and South Korea can pre-order the XReal Aura on the XReal website starting today, with shipments expected to begin in mid-November. The limited-time price is $1,099 for the 12GB + 256GB configuration and $1,299 for the 16GB + 512GB configuration, which is $180 and $200 less, respectively, than XReal announced earlier this month. These reduced prices will last until the end of the year.

If the claim of mixed reality in sunglasses seems dubious, I tested them a few months ago and they really are.

Instead of a closed headset, XReal Aura projects digital content onto transparent lenses, allowing you to simultaneously immerse yourself in both the real and digital worlds. Unlike traditional VR headsets, the Aura’s batteries and main processing unit are housed in a pocket-sized, wired controller. This reduces weight and makes the headset comfortable enough for extended wear. Powered by Android XR, users will have access to millions of 2D and 3D Android apps immediately after purchase.

If you want to go beyond Android, you can connect a USB-C-compatible computer or game console to the Aura and use that device in the same virtual space as native Android XR apps.

What do you think at the moment?

XReal Aura also launches with a library of over 150 apps built specifically for XR, including games like Nevatars , designed by Andy Serkis; Fallout: Factions , a one-on-one dice game set in the Fallout universe; and Landing Party, “the world’s first outdoor role-playing video game.” Companion apps for the NBA, NASCAR, and the San Francisco Ballet’s Nutcracker Ballet will also be available. On the productivity front, ShapexXR, a collaboration platform for software developers, will debut on Android XR, allowing you to use apps like Frontline.io for learning and job search assistance, and Plynk Spatial for stock market research and stock trading.
