I’ll stick to my marathon training schedule despite the nor’easter storm . Usually, that means coming home with wet sneakers, putting them in front of a fan, and hoping they’ll dry overnight. But that usually means going for a run the next day in still-damp sneakers. Not only is that uncomfortable, but the house smells like a locker room.
This weekend I had two back-to-back workouts in the rain, which meant my sneakers had to be ready to wear almost immediately. This week, I updated my sneakers with a gadget: this hedgehog hanger .

The Hedgehog Hanger is a hanging shoe and glove dryer. It’s easy to hang in a closet or wardrobe (it comes with a stainless steel hook), plug into an outlet, and place your shoes on the hooks. Instead of simply heating the air, it circulates air inside the shoes. The manufacturer claims its patented turbine technology removes moisture from the fabric, and that a pair of shoes or gloves dries in approximately 15-30 minutes.
I really like how easy it is to use. The heat is adjustable, from room temperature to several warm settings, including lower ones designed for leather and more sensitive materials. This is essential if you don’t want to dry a good pair of shoes on the highest temperature. There are five speed settings, including a tornado mode for the fastest drying when you’re in a hurry.
After my first run in the rain this weekend, I hung my wet shoes on the Hedgehog and let it do its thing. By the time I was ready for my next workout, they were dry, fresh, and ready to go. I didn’t have to switch to a spare pair—or lace up wet shoes and hope for the best.
If you’re a runner, hiker, or anyone who trains in bad weather, the speed of your workouts is a real plus. Maintaining a consistent workout is much easier when wet clothes aren’t a reason to skip a session. However, I wish the price was a little lower: if you only encounter wet shoes a few times a year, $199 is a bit steep.
However, if you work out in all kinds of weather, live in a rainy or snowy area, or your kids are constantly bringing wet shoes and gloves, this gadget will be very useful. Incidentally, even when it’s not plugged in, I appreciate the extra storage space next to my shoe rack.
