On Woot, the 13-inch iPad Air with an M4 processor , 256GB of storage, Wi-Fi, and cellular data is on sale for $1,019—$180 off its original price of $1,199.99, and $80 off the same configuration on Amazon , which currently costs $1,099. PCMag calls the M4-powered iPad Air a superb tablet with strong performance and future-proof connectivity, and in everyday use, that mostly comes down to how much you can do at once without the device feeling bogged down—its 12.9-inch screen leaves plenty of room to keep Safari open next to notes during a lecture, or mark up a PDF with the Apple Pencil Pro without resorting to pinch-and-zoom gestures, and thanks to the M4 chip and 12GB of storage, editing a short video or working with a dozen tabs and a couple of apps doesn’t slow you down.
The key feature of this generation is connectivity, as the Apple N1 chip finally brings Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 to the Air, while the cellular models feature the iPhone Air’s C1X modem, which Apple claims consumes 30% less power. It’s the latter component that’s worth the extra cost, as it means you can answer emails on the train or finish a draft on a park bench via 5G without having to reach for a network connection.
However, the display runs at 60Hz, so scrolling and stylus movements won’t be as smooth as on the iPad Pro with ProMotion technology, and the Air isn’t water-resistant, which is worth noting if you plan to use it outdoors, near the kitchen table, or by the pool. Furthermore, the 13-inch model weighs 1.36 pounds, significantly heavier than the 11-inch version, so prolonged use may become tiring.
