Buying a refurbished six-year-old MacBook in 2026 obviously isn’t for everyone, but at this price of $279.99 on StackSocial, it could be a great buy for a student, the average home user, or anyone who needs an inexpensive second Mac for web browsing, document work, email, streaming, and video calling.
This is the Intel-powered version, not the better-known M1 model coming later in 2020, so expectations should remain reasonable. It features a 10th-generation Intel Core i3 processor with 8GB of RAM and Intel Iris Plus graphics, making it perfectly capable of running Google Docs, opening multiple browser tabs simultaneously, participating in video calls, or watching Netflix, but I wouldn’t buy it for video editing, modern gaming, or more resource-intensive creative work.
Still, the hardware includes a crisp 13.3-inch Retina display, a comfortable Magic Keyboard, and Touch ID for easy login and purchase confirmation. There are also two Thunderbolt 3 ports, USB-C charging, and a 720p webcam. Apple initially claimed this model would provide up to 11 hours of wireless battery life, though a refurbished six-year-old battery may not reach that figure. A bigger concern is how long it will remain useful. This MacBook Air can run macOS Sequoia, but it doesn’t support macOS Tahoe 26, so it’s no longer receiving Apple’s latest major operating system update.
