How to Block Spam Calls on Android and IPhone

In the time you spend watching the video above, you will probably get 3-5 spam calls. Or at least it seems so.

Robocalls are difficult to block because they 1) always come from a different number and 2) often come from your own area code to make you think it’s someone you know. While you cannot block all spam numbers, and scammers always find new ways to get through phone lines, there are still some things you can do to limit the number of bots they receive.

In iOS 13 or later, you can block calls from unknown numbers altogether by selecting “mute unknown callers”. The call will go straight to the missed call, but at least bring you peace of mind.

On many Android phones, you can open your default caller ID and spam options, and enable “filter spam calls”, “view caller ID and spam”, and “verified numbers”.

Then there are third party apps. Wideprotect will allow you to block codes of cities and calls from certain places in droves. Hiya also has advanced spam blocking features, but it comes at a price. Finally, all major wireless carriers have their own apps for this purpose, so check yours and see what free features they offer.
