Apple Has Blocked Hackers From Exploiting This Serious Security Vulnerability.
On Thursday, August 6, Apple released three new security updates for Mac computers. You don’t need the latest version of macOS 26 to use these updates. While the company also released an update for Tahoe, Apple’s security updates also include updates for macOS 15 Sequoia and macOS 14 Sonoma—all of which address a vulnerability that allowed hackers to share your screen without your permission.

macOS Tahoe 26.6.1 ,macOS Sequoia 15.7.9 , andmacOS Sonoma 14.8.9 all contain the same security update: it’s tracked as CVE-2026-65400 and addresses a vulnerability in the Screen Sharing feature that, according to Apple, could allow an attacker on your network to “authenticate for screen sharing without valid credentials.” Simply put, this security vulnerability could allow hackers to activate screen sharing without permission, making the contents of your Mac’s screen completely accessible to anyone with knowledge of it.
Apple’s Screen Sharing feature is complex, which is good for usability, but potentially dangerous in this case. Users using Screen Sharing can not only see your Mac’s screen but also, if necessary, take full control of it. Activating this feature typically requires permission from both parties, and it’s unclear whether this vulnerability affects functionality. But if it does, then theoretically, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability to gain control of your computer—accessing your files, messages, or anything else on your Mac.
The good news is that Apple hasn’t stated that this vulnerability has been publicly disclosed or actively exploited. Therefore, it’s highly likely that hackers aren’t currently exploiting it. However, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible: some AI models, like Claude Mythos , are adept at detecting security vulnerabilities , so someone could have hypothetically discovered this vulnerability before Apple. Fortunately, a patch is already available for everyone using the last three versions of macOS, so all you need to do to stay protected is update your Mac.
