Information About How Google Interprets Apple’s AirTag May Have Leaked Online.
If you’re looking for a Bluetooth tracker to keep track of your belongings, your choice may depend on the platform. In the Apple ecosystem, your first (and perhaps best) choice is AirTag , developed by Apple itself for the Find My network. On Android, you have more options, but not quite as many as Apple: Samsung has a tracker that works best with Galaxy devices, while Tile has its own proprietary network . You might think the best choice would be from Google directly, since the company also develops Android—but that’s not the case.
Google isn’t just not the default option; it’s not even considered. Despite creating Android and maintaining the Find Hub network (similar to Apple’s Find My), the company doesn’t have its own location-tracking device. This is a missed opportunity, as it could benefit not just Pixel users but all Android users using Find Hub. As it turns out, that may soon change.
Google Pixel Tag may be coming soon.
9to5Google reports that it received an image of the “Google Pixel Tag” at the same time the product appeared in online catalogs. At the time of this writing, no stores in the US appear to have the Google Pixel Tag for sale, although 9to5Google points to two international listings for the tracker. As is often the case with Google, the Pixel Tag is a bit different from other trackers on the market. While Apple’s AirTag is disc-shaped, Google’s is oval; it’s somewhat similar to Samsung’s SmartTag, although Samsung has a larger, rounder element for attaching items to the tag. Google’s device is completely one-piece. 9to5Google compares it to a Fitbit Air without a strap, which isn’t far off the mark.
We’re still in the very early stages of leaks and rumors, so it’s unclear whether this is actually the Google Pixel Tag, or whether Google is even planning to release a tracker. However, this image looks very credible, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Google released it. Furthermore, Google is preparing to announce the Pixel 11 in just a couple of weeks , which would be the perfect time to announce a companion product like the Google Pixel Tag.
