IOS 27 Includes a Recovery Mode for IPhone, Similar to MacOS.

Your iPhone is essentially a mini-computer, yet some essential iOS features still require a Mac or PC. This includes system restore: if your iPhone encountered software problems, a computer was traditionally required to restore it. Apple is gradually changing this: in iOS 26, the company introduced a new Recovery Assistant that allows you to diagnose your iPhone directly in iOS, as if it were a Mac. However, this menu only appeared if your iPhone crashed on its own, and you had no way to access it yourself. In iOS 27, this changes . If you’re using the beta , you can try Recovery Assistant at any time, and with a new menu.

(It’s not available on my iPhone 14 Pro Max.)

  • Diagnostic Mode : This feature helps Apple employees diagnose problems and decide how to proceed with a repair. It also allows Apple to check your iPhone for defects during the trade-in process. If you’re planning to sell your iPhone, you can use this feature to identify issues with your device.

  • Erase All Content and Settings : This option allows you to format your iPhone and reset it to factory settings. It’s also useful if your iPhone won’t boot into iOS.
