Sony’s High-Priced 1000X ‘Collexion’ Headphones Are Now Discounted for the First Time.

I’ve been recommending the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones since I reviewed them in 2025 , and my only real gripe was their high price. Unfortunately for those on a tighter budget, Sony has released a newer, more luxurious version of these beloved headphones with an even higher price tag.

The Sony 1000X The Collection headphones, with their ridiculous name as always, retail for $649.99, which is arguably an insane price for headphones. However, Target just gave them their first significant discount, dropping the price by $50 to $599.99.

So what makes these headphones special enough to justify such a high price? They’re heavier, weighing between 254 and 320 grams, giving them a more premium feel. Stainless steel components replace plastic hinges. The earcups are made of faux leather, providing a pleasant texture. Thicker padding on the earcups helps offset the extra weight, making them more comfortable during long listening sessions.

In terms of software, you get the same excellent features as the 1000XM6 and the same app user interface, with the addition of a new spatial processing mode for movies, games, and music. On the hardware side, you get Bluetooth 6.0 support, a newer Sony V3 processor, and built-in Auracast support.

What do you think at the moment?

Besides the price and the lack of folding for storage, the battery life is about 12 hours shorter than the cheaper model, at around 24 hours. Active noise cancellation and sound quality are virtually identical, so you’re essentially paying more for a more refined design. If that’s important to you, you’ll undoubtedly be pleased. If you’re looking to save money, the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones, currently on sale on Amazon for $398, are arguably a better value.
