Here Are All the New Emojis and Wallpapers in IOS 14.2

iOS 14.2 is here, and while it’s not an insanely giant update for your device, there are still a few cool features worth knowing about.

First, the big one – well, I suspect you’ll be using it more often than any other: new emojis. Over 100 of them will appear on your keyboard after updating to iOS 14.2. Here’s a quick overview of what you’ll find:

Here’s a cockroach. This is just for you New Yorkers. If you want to see the full list, you’ll have to click that link – thank goodness Emojipedia lists them all graphically, so you don’t need to view them on Android 11 or iOS 14.2. Any browser will do.

Pretty new wallpaper

iOS 14.2 also comes with eight brand new wallpapers just in case you want to fool your iPhone a little more than before. If you are not using iOS 14.2 or even an iPhone, you can download them for your device here . Otherwise, this is how they look (in both day and night versions):

Lock screen and Control Center music settings

Elsewhere in iOS 14.2, you’ll experience some small UI changes to the music controls you see on the lock screen when using the Music app, including a new timestamp that appears when you scroll through a track.

There is also a new interface for controlling what plays on AirPlay-compatible devices on your home network. …

Your Control Center has a brand new music interface that puts album art in the spotlight. And if you click on the Now Playing box in the Control Center when nothing is really playing, you should get recommendations for the music you might want to play.

Shazam song recognition features finally arrive on iOS

The biggest addition to iOS 14.2 is Shazam. Acquired by Apple in 2018, Shazam’s magic of “identifying the songs that sound around you in real life” finally found its way into iOS 14.2, and is now available via the handy Music Recognition toggle in your Control Center. Spoiler alert: It looks like the blue Shazam logo and you need to enable it first via the Control Center option in the settings app.

And that’s pretty much it, unless you’re planning on buying Apple’s trendy new HomePod mini tomorrow; iOS 14.2 also opens up a new intercom mode that people around your home can use to talk to each other’s Apple devices. You can now also connect your HomePod to your Apple TV to stream audio from the latter through the former.
