You Can Now Use Google Wallet Instead of ID at Airport Security.

Android users with a TSA PreCheck subscription can now go through airport security without scanning their boarding passes or presenting ID. Contactless identification, previously available only to a few airlines, now works with Google Wallet, and all you need is a passport and a TSA PreCheck subscription.

How does contactless identification work at the TSA PreCheck screening area?

Touchless ID is a faster screening process for travelers enrolled in the TSA PreCheck program. If your boarding pass includes touchless ID, you can proceed through a dedicated lane at security—separate from the regular TSA PreCheck line—and authenticate yourself using facial recognition without having to present or scan your driver’s license, passport, or other REAL ID identification.

Until now, access to the Touchless ID system was limited to passengers on American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Delta Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines, who could sign in through their airline profile using their Known Traveler Number. With the addition of Google Wallet, passengers only need to set up Touchless ID once and use it on dozens of participating airlines . (Please note that not all airports have a Touchless ID line.)

To set up contactless authentication in Google Wallet, you’ll first need to create an ID card using your passport. Tap “Add to Google Wallet” > “ID” > “Pass” > “Continue.” Then, select the region that matches your passport and follow the instructions to scan the passport information page and security chip, as well as record a video of your face to verify your identity.

What do you think at the moment?

When checking in for your flight, save your electronic boarding pass in Google Wallet. If you’re eligible for contactless identification, your pass will have a “Get Started” button. Clicking this will take you to the TSA check-in page. You’ll be asked to agree to share your ID and boarding pass with others. Once your check-in is confirmed, the TSA PreCheck contactless identification icon will appear on your pass.
