Apple Will Soon Let You Use AI to More Easily Create Automated Scripts.

The Shortcuts app is Apple’s automation hub for all sorts of tasks on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It lets you create automations based on simple triggers , like turning on lights when you’re near home at the end of the workday. While the Shortcuts app is incredibly powerful, creating shortcuts has always been a bit tricky. If you’re not tech-savvy, it can be difficult to understand how triggers work, why a particular step disrupts your automation, and so on. Apple is changing all that with iOS 27 , scheduled for release this fall.

Apple will soon allow you to use Apple Intelligence , its version of artificial intelligence, to create shortcuts with simple text prompts. This means you can ask Apple Intelligence to create a shortcut with a simple prompt like “Text my partner when I leave work.” This will create the shortcut for you, and you can set the app to run it every weekday. This makes the Shortcuts feature much more accessible for people who find it difficult to create multi-step automated workflows. You’ll still have to test the shortcut to make sure it works correctly, adjust the prompts to fix errors, and go through several iterations before you have the perfect automation. However, it’s much easier than creating your own shortcuts manually.

What do you think at the moment?

Honestly, even I resist creating multiple shortcuts and automations because of how time-consuming it is. I prefer to search the web for great shortcuts created by the community, but with the upcoming Apple Intelligence integration, I’m looking forward to creating tons of my own shortcuts. However, there’s a catch: this feature will only work with devices that support Apple Intelligence, meaning you’ll need an iPhone 15 Pro or newer to use it. Owners of older devices won’t be able to use the new Apple Intelligence features.
