On Woot , the GoPro Lit Hero is selling for $199, significantly lower than the original price of $269 set for its October 2025 launch. The main reason someone would buy the Lit Hero is its portability. Weighing just 3.3 ounces (about 96 grams), it’s truly tiny, small enough to fit in a jacket pocket or clip to a bike helmet without being uncomfortable to wear all day. It records video up to 4K at 60 fps, takes 12MP photos, and is waterproof to 16 feet (about 5 meters) without the need for an additional housing, making it practical for casual commuting, bike rides, trips to the beach, or short vacation videos. Startup speed is fast, autofocus is reliable in most situations, and the battery lasts for about 90 minutes of continuous shooting, which is not bad considering the battery is sealed and can’t be replaced mid-day. The built-in LED flashlight is also brighter than expected for such a small camera, though it seems more useful underwater or in emergency situations than for everyday shooting.
On the downside, the extremely small 1.76-inch touchscreen quickly becomes tedious to navigate, especially outdoors or with wet hands. And since there are virtually no physical controls, almost everything relies on tapping the menu on this tiny display. There’s also no built-in image stabilization. Instead, you have to transfer footage to the GoPro Quik app and apply stabilization afterwards, which adds an extra, annoying step. And while image quality is decent in bright light, the small 1/2.8-inch sensor struggles in low light, producing softer images with visible noise. Those who enjoy color grading or post-processing will also miss the flexibility, as there’s no Log mode or meaningful manual controls. Overall, the Lit Hero feels less like a smaller version of the Hero Black and more like a compact action camera for beginners who prioritize convenience and size over image quality.
