DirecTV Has Released an App for Meta Quest Headsets.

DirecTV has launched its Meta Quest headset service. While the headset already offers streaming apps for individual channels, such as Peacock , this is the first full-fledged TV content distribution service available to Quest users. It gives DirecTV subscribers access to over 150 live channels—CNN, HGTV, NFL Network, and more—as well as a vast library of on-demand movies and TV shows.

If you already have a DirecTV subscription, you can download the DirecTV app from the Quest store, enter your credentials, and start streaming all the channels available on your regular TV.

DirecTV offers four content plans ranging from $89.99 to $169.99 per month, as well as smaller “genre packs.” These contract-free packages, ranging from $19.99 to $59.99, offer fewer channels but are focused on specific interests, such as sports or entertainment. A five-day free trial is also available. The app works on Meta Quest 2, 3, 3S, and Meta Quest Pro headsets.

DirecTV doesn’t offer content specifically designed for VR—there’s no 3D movie library or immersive content, you don’t watch it in a virtual room, and there’s no way to watch it with others online—but essentially, you get a new place to watch and record DirecTV channels in augmented reality.

What do you think at the moment?

The app itself works well. It’s a programming guide and a screen that can be resized and docked anywhere in the augmented reality experience, turning your Quest headset into a portable, large TV. It’s nothing revolutionary, but there’s no need to reinvent the wheel either.

Don’t miss out on free channels and movies from DirecTV.

If you don’t have a DirecTV subscription, the app is still worth downloading. It features hundreds of unusual, obscure channels (like the Bob Ross Channel), as well as specialized movie channels and more popular options like ABC News Live and FOX Weather. You can also watch a ton of movies on demand; these aren’t movies that just hit theaters and are available with a subscription, but if you want to rewatch Mars Attacks , why not do it with a VR headset?
