Track Election Results on Your Phone Without Puzzling

As if you need another reminder: tomorrow is election day. Most of the websites you read and the social media apps you use and the politically minded friends you interact with will be on high alert. For the sake of your common sense, you should seriously consider going into the dark: turn off your cell phone and web notifications and just pretend it’s any other day as much as possible. ( After you’ve voted, of course .)

If you really can’t get away (or don’t want to), try to focus your political notices on just one source – preferably one that respects the privacy of push notifications. We recommend that you check how The Guardian handles election results in its app.

Rather than bombarding you with a new push notification for every update or headline, The Guardian’s one-time election update screen will sit on your iOS or Android device’s lock screen to serve as your sole source of election results that you can only check whenever you want. j. It sounds a lot better than being bombarded with every news app you use when new information arrives on election night.

As for what you find in this notice, The Guardian reports:

“If you sign up, you will receive one continuously updated notification that will appear on your phone’s lock screen as results come in on election night and beyond. The notification will display the most recent number of electoral votes won and named states, as well as an indication of which states were summoned, as well as the distribution of popular votes between the two leading candidates.

You can also expand the alert to see a data visualization showing electoral votes and options for navigating to the Guardian’s live blog or full results page. ”

If by the end of the night the results are too close to be called (or they are disputed, the whole thing drags on for several days or weeks), The Guardian’s tracker will remain active until the results are clear.

You can download the Guardian app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store , you will find simple instructions on how to include an election counter in The Guardian’s publications , and the app is free for everyone. Hopefully this will help you deal with some of the Election Day anxieties that you are probably starting to experience by now.
