In everyday use, everything is extremely simple. The H1 chip quickly connects to Apple devices and makes switching between them effortless. The sound is balanced, with a slight bass emphasis, perfect for playlists, YouTube videos, and calls. Spatial sound with head tracking is also present, adding a directional effect when watching supported content, although this is more of a nice-to-have feature than a reason to buy. Battery life is approximately six hours on a single charge, and the charging case provides nearly 24 hours of listening time. Charging is via a Lightning cable, MagSafe, or any standard Qi wireless charger.

What do you think at the moment?

As noted in the PCMag review, these earbuds have an open-back design without silicone tips, so they fit loosely compared to other in-ear models. This may make them more comfortable for extended use, but less secure during vigorous movement. The lack of a tight seal also means outside noise leaks in, as there’s no active noise cancellation or transparency mode. There are also no in-line equalizer controls. And while the controls on the stem are responsive, they’re easy to accidentally press when adjusting settings. Still, for simple, comfortable earbuds that work best within the Apple ecosystem, these third-generation Apple AirPods are quite up to the task.
