You Can Now Mute All Videos on Spotify.

I’ve never been a big fan of watching videos in music streaming apps on my phone. I want to listen to songs, create playlists, and read lyrics, but I never pick up my phone to watch videos on Spotify . If you’re like me, you’ll be happy to hear that Spotify is rolling out a new feature that lets you turn off videos in the app. This goes beyond disabling looping videos that appear while playing songs: the new feature also disables music videos and vertical videos uploaded by creators, returning Spotify to a platform focused solely on audio content.
How to turn off videos on Spotify
Spotify will let you turn off video playback, even if you’re on a free plan. To get started, open Spotify on your phone and tap the profile button in the upper-left corner. Go to Settings & Privacy > Content & Display , and you’ll see new controls under Videos & Canvas. Toggle off Music Videos , Canvas, and All Other Videos to disable video playback entirely. In the Spotify desktop app, these toggles can be found by tapping your profile icon and going to Settings > Display . Note that the toggle to disable Canvas (loop videos while playing music) has been around for a while , but the other two settings are new. If you don’t see these options right away, expect them to roll out to your device in the coming weeks.
If you’re the administrator of a Family plan, you can disable video playback for other users on your plan. Tap the profile icon in the Spotify mobile app, select “Your Premium Accounts” > “Manage,” and select any profile. Then, go to the “Videos” and “Canvas” section and toggle off the same three switches to disable video playback. Once you apply these settings on one device, Spotify says they’ll sync across all other devices connected to the same account, meaning you won’t have to disable video playback on each device you use.
Unfortunately, this won’t disable video ads or looping videos that appear alongside some audio ads on Spotify. Even with this annoying limitation, I’m happy to start using this feature right now. I’m hoping Spotify will let me mute podcasts and audiobooks so I can focus solely on music.
