Sony’s Excellent WH-1000XM5 Headphones Are Now $150 Off.
The Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones are the latest model in the Sony 1000X series, which has been around since 2016. They’re currently the best over-ear headphones on the market for sound quality, but not everyone can (or needs) to spend nearly $500 on headphones. The WH-1000XM5 is a generation older and was the best in its class when it launched. Since this model was released a couple of years ago, they’re currently discounted for $248 (originally $399.99)—the second-lowest price ever, according to price tracking tools .
I’ve been a loyal fan of the 1000X series for years; they’re my favorite headphones for most activities. The WH-1000XM5 headphones were released in May 2022 and received an “Outstanding” review from PCMag for their top-notch sound quality and exceptional audio performance with best-in-class active noise cancellation. They’re also well-designed to be comfortable for long listening sessions.
The headphones are controlled by taps and swipes, which I’m not a big fan of, but modern headphones are increasingly adopting this approach. There’s a companion app that lets you customize the equalizer settings to your liking, including swipe and tap functions.
These headphones also feature a 3.5mm stereo jack, making them ideal for those who want a wired connection and don’t want to worry about battery life. Sony claims battery life of approximately 30 hours, but this may vary depending on whether active noise cancellation (ANC) is enabled. They are compatible with AAC, LDAC, and SBC codecs and feature multipoint connectivity, meaning you can pair them with multiple devices simultaneously.
