What Should You Do If Your Pixel Watch Is Counting Your Steps or Calories Twice?

Since the release of the Pixel update in March, some Pixel watch users have reported inaccurate step count and calorie burn readings. While there’s no official solution yet, users have found several workarounds that appear to resolve the issue.

Some Pixel Watch users are experiencing overestimation of their step count and calories burned.

The problem, as revealed by numerous forum posts like r/PixelWatch and comments on the March feature update , is that the Fitbit app shows far more steps than the user realizes. For example, one user reports, “My watch says I walked 6,688 steps today, which is impossible! I just went to the bathroom and back, and now my watch shows 7,025 steps! I probably only walked half that!”

It appears the calorie count is also skewed for some users. One Reddit user writes, “I only walked about 7,000 steps yesterday, but my Pixel Watch 4/Fitbit showed I burned over 11,000 calories, which is obviously impossible, considering I’m not on fire or running three or four marathons yesterday while working on my computer.”

While the issues appear to have started shortly after the March update, the cause may not be with the Pixel Watch firmware itself, but something else, such as the Fitbit app. Some reports come from people who haven’t yet received the feature update on their watches but are still seeing inflated calorie or step counts. (The March update included a firmware update for Bluetooth/Wi-Fi watches, but not for LTE watches, so owners of LTE watches didn’t receive the update.
