In My Experience, This $460 Bidet Is Worth Every Penny.
I’ve been using a bidet since returning from my trip to Japan in 2019. In Japan, they take hygiene and bidets very seriously. Their bidets were incredible, with features and technology I never imagined possible on a toilet. But I decided to start simple, with a basic $56 bidet , which did the job. But with the onset of winter, the water and toilet seats in our uninsulated bathroom became unbearable, so we decided it was time to upgrade. My wife and I were so impressed with the Coway Bidetmega 500S that we sometimes put off other errands until we got home to use our shiny new bidet.
The Coway 500S bidet comes in both long and small round sizes, both of which are easy to install . However, I highly recommend anyone spending over $400 on a luxury bidet to first invest in the long toilet , which can be found for $100 at Home Depot. Installation is straightforward—I did it myself by watching a YouTube video—but you can always call a plumber for around $150. The experience of using the long toilet is significantly different. Bidet seats are already smaller than standard ones, so the smaller round version makes the space feel quite cramped (I tried the round version first and didn’t like it). It’s important to remember that you’ll need a grounded outlet near the toilet to connect the bidet.
As I mentioned, my bathroom isn’t insulated, so it gets very cold in the mornings. Because of this, we really appreciated the heated seat and water feature. The remote control allows you to adjust the temperature in three levels: green, orange, and red, with each level gradually increasing. The remote also has a convenient user profile that saves settings for that user, so my wife and I don’t have to constantly argue about the settings.
As much as I love the warming feature, there’s another aspect that makes this bidet worth every penny: the self-cleaning nozzle. My old bidets didn’t have a self-cleaning feature, meaning I had to spend time cleaning them from time to time (I hated it). The Coway 500S self-cleans automatically and returns them to their pristine condition in three ways: with a UV lamp, a cleaning spray for the nozzle, and a protective screen that traps particles, preventing them from falling into the bowl. So far, I’m very impressed with this feature.
There are other features, too, including air drying (I personally don’t find it particularly effective), a touch button on the remote control to open the lid (it works about 80% of the time), a night light, and a deodorizer. If you’re a bidet lover, the Coway 500S is an amazing bidet that transports me back to Japan. It has significantly improved my quality of life and, in my opinion, was worth every penny.
