While a discount of $50 or $800 isn’t much, the fact that Amazon is slashing the price of Apple’s newest flagship iPad on its launch day is unusual. This price reduction applies to the larger 13-inch model, while the smaller 11-inch iPad Air costs $559 , a $40 reduction from the $599 suggested retail price and matching Walmart’s pre-order offer .
Owners of the iPad Air with the M3 processor shouldn’t get too excited—there’s nothing special here, other than the more powerful M4 chip, which may offer a noticeable boost in power efficiency compared to its predecessor. This is likely due to the addition of one more power-efficient core than the M3 Air. However, the biggest difference is the additional 4GB of RAM (12GB total). This means you can multitask longer with multiple tabs and apps open.
According to Apple, the new iPad should be 30% faster than the previous generation, though we won’t know for sure until it’s tested by experts. Other improvements include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and compatibility with the Thread smart home standard. Other specs remain the same: 12-megapixel rear and front cameras, USB-C connectivity with Touch ID, 10 hours of video playback, and 128GB of storage for the base model.
If you still have an iPad M3 or another modern iPad, it’s probably not worth upgrading. However, if you have an older iPad (or don’t have one at all), this is a good opportunity to get Apple’s newest iPad at the best price you’re likely to see in a while.
