Now Your Peloton Ride Data Finally Syncs With Your Garmin Account.

Rejoice, Peloton/Garmin users—you no longer need to record your exercise bike workouts twice or use third-party apps to sync data between the two devices. The latest Peloton app update now allows you to sync your Peloton workouts to your Garmin. The previous update only allowed you to sync workouts in the opposite direction, but now we have both features.

How to sync between Peloton and Garmin

To enable syncing, open the Peloton app on your phone. Tap the person icon in the lower right corner ( not your profile picture in the upper left, that’s different), then tap the menu icon in the upper right corner and select “Connected Apps & Devices.”

In the list of apps, you’ll see Garmin Connect. Tap it to set up a Garmin/Peloton connection. You’ll need to sign in to your Garmin account, after which you’ll have two options:

You may also like

  • Enable automatic workout import if you want your Garmin workouts to appear in your Peloton workout history. You can choose to import only certain workout types if you don’t want to import everything.

  • Enable the “Send to Garmin Connect” feature if you want your Peloton workouts to appear in your Garmin history. You can also select workout types if you don’t want all your data synced.

These are two separate switches because you might not want data syncing in both directions. For example, if Peloton transfers my rides to Strava, I don’t necessarily want ride data from Peloton to Garmin to also be transferred to Strava from there.

Why the new sync between Peloton and Garmin is an improvement.

Previously, if you wanted your Peloton workouts to be logged in the Garmin app, you likely did it one of two ways. The simplest way was to simply wear a Garmin watch and simultaneously log the workout on the watch. This way, you had two records (one in each app). The main drawback of this method was that you didn’t have all the Peloton data: power, cadence, intensity, and so on. Syncing a workout from Peloton to Garmin now means you get all that data and the workout title (“5 min. warmup 60 sec” in my example).

What do you think at the moment?

If you previously recorded workout data twice, there’s one important thing to be aware of when switching to the new system: heart rate data recorded by Peloton won’t be included in your workout unless you have a heart rate monitor paired with your Peloton device. Fortunately, you can probably use your Garmin for this without starting a Garmin workout. Simply tap “Broadcast Heart Rate” in the dashboard of your Forerunner or other compatible watch. Here are instructions for setting this up on the Forerunner 570 ; for other Garmin watch models, check your device’s user manual to see if you have this feature and where to access it.

Another common method is to use SyncMyWorkout , a paid service that syncs data between your Garmin and Peloton accounts. This service may be outdated for many users, although it appears to have a historical data import feature, which the Peloton/Garmin integration lacks.
