Changes to Your Amazon Wish Lists Could Reveal Your Home Address to Strangers.

Amazon’s Wish List feature is a versatile way to let others know what gifts you’re interested in. This could be a list of gifts for a baby shower or information about what you’d like to receive for a birthday from friends and family. But it’s also often used by online bloggers to solicit gifts from fans or to connect those in need with donated items from online strangers looking to help. Until now, we’ve relied on Wish List as a secure way for strangers to send items without having to worry about setting up an email account. But in the future, Wish List will risk revealing the author’s exact location to fans—unless the author takes action.

Amazon puts shipping addresses at risk by making wish list changes.

As 404 Media reports , Amazon is recommending that customers using wish lists change their delivery addresses to PO Boxes or non-residential addresses. The company makes changes to wish lists that could reveal the address you specified in this feature. By leaving it as your home address, you risk exposing your personal information—that is, your address—to strangers online.

This is because Amazon is now removing the ability to block purchases of wishlist items from third-party sellers. This means anyone who purchases items from your wishlist for shipping to you will be able to purchase them from third-party sellers, and these sellers will have access to your shipping address. From Amazon’s perspective, these changes give buyers more flexibility in choosing items from your wishlist, but unfortunately, they impact your privacy. However, it’s not just sellers who will have access to this address: buyers will too, as they can see your address in the shipping notifications they receive during the purchase process.

As 404 Media notes, major courier companies typically don’t disclose addresses in such situations. But Amazon’s changes mean third-party sellers can share this information themselves. Furthermore, if the courier takes photos of the package to confirm delivery, this could leak even more of your personal data than you’d like—for example, the appearance of your front door or driveway.

These changes won’t take effect immediately, so if you use Amazon wish lists, you don’t have to worry about your home address being leaked online just yet. However, the company has set a deadline of March 25, so it’s important to act quickly to protect yourself.

What do you think at the moment?

Below you can read the email Amazon sends to wishlist users:

We are writing to inform you of an upcoming change to Amazon Lists. Beginning March 25, 2026, we will remove the ability to restrict purchases of items from lists from third-party sellers. Once this change takes effect, gift shoppers will be able to purchase items sold by third-party sellers from your lists, and your shipping address will be shared with the seller for fulfillment. This change will give gift shoppers access to a wider selection of products when purchasing from your lists… Important note: When purchasing gifts from your shared or public lists, Amazon requires you to share your shipping address with sellers and delivery partners to fulfill these orders. During the shipping process, your address may become visible to gift shoppers through shipping updates and tracking information. To protect your privacy, we recommend using a PO Box or non-residential address for any list you share with a public audience.
