This Rugged Portable Sony Speaker Is Now $100.

The Sony ULT Field 3 is part of Sony’s new ULT line, launching in 2025, alongside the larger ULT Field 5 and ULT Tower 9. It’s the smallest and most portable of the three models, clearly aimed at those who want a speaker that’s durable, loud, and easy to carry. Woot is currently selling a refurbished unit for $99.99, with free shipping for Prime members and a $6 shipping fee for everyone else. As a “Grade A” refurbished unit, it’s been inspected, tested, and guaranteed to work like new, with cosmetic imperfections not noticeable from arm’s length. It also comes with a one-year limited eReplacements warranty. A similar speaker was listed on Amazon for $125, and according to price tracking data , it hasn’t dropped any lower, so this is truly a price reduction, not a resale.

In practice, the ULT Field 3 exhibits a strong bass emphasis. Sony managed to fit a true woofer into a backpack-friendly enclosure, and you can feel this low-end emphasis even at moderate volumes. Enabling ULT mode boosts the bass, which works well outdoors or in large rooms, but it’s not subtle. Vocals can fade into the background a bit unless you adjust the sound. Incidentally, the seven-band equalizer in Sony’s Sound Connect app helps fine-tune the sound, especially if you want a smoother frequency response for podcasts or background music. The speaker is IP67-rated, so it can withstand dust, water, and accidental drops without issue, according to a PCMag review . It also supports Party Connect, allowing you to connect it to other compatible Sony speakers for wider coverage.

What do you think at the moment?

Another strong point is the battery life: up to 24 hours of playback at moderate volume. At maximum volume, this drops to around five hours, which is expected given the bass. Fast charging also helps: a 10-minute charge reportedly provides around two hours of listening time, which is handy if you forget to plug the speaker in. This isn’t the most balanced-sounding speaker for critical listening, and the app’s extra features, such as DJ effects, may seem excessive to some. But given its portability, durability, and long battery life for the price, it’s a worthy option if you’re looking for bass-heavy sound.
