This is Google’s newest wired doorbell, and it’s clearly designed for those who already use Google Home. The device’s appearance will be familiar to anyone who’s seen the battery-powered Nest doorbell . It retains the same slim, upright shape, but is slightly shorter, standing at about 5.1 inches tall. It has an IP65 weatherproof rating and feels like a high-quality device, but it’s a hardwired model only. You’ll need existing doorbell wiring and a compatible transformer. Google includes a bell connector, mounting hardware, and a wedge mount, but installation requires pre-wired installation.

The main advantage of this model is its video quality. The camera records in 2K HDR with a 1:1 aspect ratio, providing a full view of the doorway from head to toe. This makes it easy to spot packages on the floor and faces at the door in the same frame. Daytime video looks clear and well-balanced, while nighttime video retains detail thanks to infrared LEDs, with color video available in sufficient light. Motion alarms are triggered quickly, and the 166-degree viewing angle feels wide without significant distortion, PCMag notes in its “excellent” review of this doorbell . It connects via dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and supports Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa for voice control. Two-way audio works reliably for short conversations, although there is no mechanical pan or tilt.

What do you think at the moment?

The software is very similar to Google’s. The doorbell works within the Google Home app, providing convenient live viewing, event recordings, and intuitive controls. The key advantage is the Gemini-powered features. Event descriptions explain what triggered the recording, and video search lets you find, for example, package deliveries or familiar faces without scrolling through recordings. The downside is storage. Everything is stored in the cloud, and without a subscription, you only get short previews. The standard plan costs $10 per month or $100 per year, while the premium plan costs double that. There’s no local storage option at all. Apple HomeKit and IFTTT support are also missing, so smart home users who don’t use Google services may find this limiting. But for those already using Google Home and willing to pay for cloud features, this price reduction makes the third-generation Nest wired doorbell an excellent choice for more intelligent doorbell monitoring .
