For years, the M1 MacBook Air has been the default budget MacBook recommended every sale season. Even now, it’s available for just $549 at Walmart. But right now, in my opinion, the best budget MacBook you can buy is the 13-inch M2 MacBook Air, which is just $599 during Best Buy’s Cyber Monday sale . This laptop has the same modern design as the M4 MacBook Air and even comes with the same 16GB of RAM.
However, that’s not the only good deal on the MacBook Air right now—if you have the extra cash, you can pick up the newest M4 MacBook Air for $738 during Amazon’s Cyber Monday sale . However, for most budget-conscious users, the best deal is the M2 MacBook Air for $600. The M2 MacBook Air has the same 13.5-inch Retina display (with a wide P3 color gamut and a crisp 2560×1664 resolution), the same cutting-edge design, MagSafe connectivity, fast Touch ID, and better speakers, not to mention 16GB of RAM, double that of the M1 MacBook Air. It also supports Apple Intelligence, though those 16GB of RAM will be very useful for everyday tasks and will also help extend battery life.
The M2 chip isn’t far behind either. Compared to the M1 chip, it’s 18% faster in CPU, 35% faster in GPU, and 40% faster in Neural Engine. It’s more than capable of handling your everyday work, email, and web browsing, as well as intensive photo and video editing. Battery life is rated at 18 hours (15 hours for web browsing). Again, that’s more than enough for a full workday and beyond. The MacBook Air M2 is, as expected, thin and light, weighing 2.7 pounds (1.2 kg) and measuring just 1.13 cm thick.
If you need a larger laptop, the 15-inch MacBook Air M2 is available for just $769.99 . These two laptops are virtually identical, including the processor and display quality. The 15-inch model certainly has a larger screen, and thanks to its larger capacity, it has better speakers. The weight, however, is slightly different: the 15-inch model weighs 1.51 kg, making it significantly heavier than the 13-inch MacBook Air.
