Roku and HBO announced yesterday that they have reached an agreement to provide streaming service to 46 million monthly active users. Coupled with the same long-awaited pact between Amazon and HBO last month, HBO Max is finally ready to launch … six months later . It’s not entirely clear what this delay is, but it’s clearer why this is happening now : Warner Bros. announced that her entire film plan for next year will be shown simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max , starting with Wonder Woman 1984 on Christmas Day. How to Watch HBO Max on Roku
If you’ve already used the regular version of the HBO app (which Roku calls “channel”), updating is pretty straightforward. Just like when HBO Now was renamed regular old HBO earlier this year, your HBO channel will automatically update and be replaced with HBO Max. Ultimately, your old credentials will work.
As of this writing, my own HBO app appears to be in the process of being updated. I checked the “New & Notable” section of the Roku Channel Store and saw HBO Max listed, but it turned out to be already installed; when I opened it the first time it was still a regular HBO channel, but when I gave up and tried again, it loaded like HBO Max, but the logo on my home screen didn’t update. If you are having problems, try uninstalling the HBO app and reinstalling it. [Update: Commenters also suggest that updating the software on your Roku will help as well.] If you start over, the process will be smoother; HBO Max is now available for download from the Roku Channel Store . Just add it to your Roku or Smart TV device and you’re good to go – as long as your HBO subscription actually includes HBO Max. It probably is, but if you signed up for HBO through a third party, it’s still a little confusing. Basically, if you’ve previously paid for HBO Now or accessed HBO through one of the larger cable or satellite services, you’re protected. If not possible , you still have to wait .
