The PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle is currently on sale for just $299 onBlack Friday —the lowest price to date, according to price trackers . The $100 discount makes Sony’s next-generation VR headset much more accessible, especially for PS5 owners who haven’t yet decided on a purchase.
The package includes a full VR2 configuration and a copy of Horizon Call of the Mountain , a game specifically designed to showcase the hardware’s capabilities. PCMag gave the PS VR2 an “outstanding” rating , and for good reason—it’s a significant improvement over Sony’s first foray into virtual reality, with sharper graphics, improved motion tracking, and more immersive gameplay.
The PS VR2 runs at a 2000 x 2040 resolution per eye, a 120Hz refresh rate, and full 6DOF (six degrees of freedom) tracking. Translation: it feels smooth and looks sharp, even with fast movements. The eye-tracking technology is surprisingly useful, making menus more intuitive and enabling foveated rendering (essentially, games focus the maximum resolution on where you’re looking). Setup is simple, and the lightweight design makes it easy to get used to, and it won’t weigh down your head during long gaming sessions. The included Sense controllers are responsive and provide physical feedback, making everything from rock climbing to archery in Horizon feel more tangible.
There are a few caveats, however. PS VR2 only works with the PlayStation 5 and isn’t backwards compatible with original PS VR games. So, if you already have a first-generation VR library, you won’t be able to transfer it. The game library is growing, but it’s not yet on par with PC systems. Still, for anyone just getting started with VR or upgrading from older hardware, this bundle is one of the best deals we’ve seen. For $299, you get one of the most polished VR experiences available today, without the need to invest in a PC or twice the price.
