Google Is Giving US College Students Another Free Year of Google AI Pro.

Google is bringing back a free year of Google AI Pro for US college students today with the release of the new Gemini 3 Pro AI model. Considering many of the new model’s most important features are hidden behind a paywall, this is a pretty good deal, even if this isn’t the first time Google has done so. The offer follows similar promotions in April and August , though the latter ended in October. The fact that this offer came so soon after the previous one ended may indicate that Google plans to continue offering similar trials regularly.

How to Get a Free Year of Google AI Pro as a College Student in the US

To get a free year of Google AI Pro, first go to gemini.google/students and click “Get Offer.” You’ll then need to sign in to your Google account, where you’ll be asked to verify your student status using SheerID. After that, Google says the sign-up process should be fairly straightforward, though since I haven’t graduated from college in over a decade, I can’t personally verify this.

Please note that you will need to provide a payment method, and unless you cancel your subscription before the trial ends, it will be renewed using your specified payment method. Additionally, trial registration will only be available until January 31, 2026 .

The most likely error you’ll encounter is that your school isn’t supported by SheerID’s pilot program. Neither Google nor SheerID disclose which schools are supported, but Google states that if you encounter any issues, you can contact [email protected] or the SheerID help center.

You also must be over 18, which may cause registration issues for some new users. Additionally, you can’t use a supervised Google account or sign up for a Google One subscription through Family Sharing or a third-party partner. Google states that you can cancel an existing paid AI Pro plan and replace it with a trial, but you can’t try to subscribe using the trial while simultaneously applying a discount toward the purchase of a Pixel phone (which would theoretically expire after the free trial ends).

There are also conflicting reports online. The current terms and conditions state that you must “be a US resident,” although the current trial help page still references previous offers that were available in other regions. I’ve reached out to Google for clarification, but for now, I’m assuming the offer is only for US residents and expires on January 31st, based on the information in the Gemini 3 Pro press release.

I also contacted Google to ask whether students who have already used the free annual trial can extend their offer by signing up for a new subscription. While the help page states that “new and existing Google One members” are eligible, it’s unclear whether those already on the free trial are considered full subscribers. My guess is no, but I’ll let you know if Google says otherwise.

What you get for a free year of Google AI Pro

A free year of Google AI Pro also includes a free year of Google One Premium, meaning even if you’re skeptical of AI , you’ll get some benefits.

For AI users, Google AI Pro offers the following:

  • Higher usage limits for deep exploration and the latest models, such as the Gemini 3 Pro

  • Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 3 Pro in AI mode

  • Generate Videos with Veo 3.1 Get faster and better access to Google Flow and generate images in videos in Veo 3.

  • More generations of remixes and Veo 3 generations of photo-to-video conversions in Google Photos

  • 1000 monthly AI credits

  • Extended access to NotebookLM

  • Higher limits in coding tools including Jules, Gemini Code Assist, Gemini CLI

  • Google Home Premium with Gemini features and 30-day event history

For everyone else, you’ll still get 2 TB of free cloud storage through Google One, which should be convenient for all of these tasks. Typically, when you sign up for a Google One Premium plan, you can also purchase a YouTube Premium plan for a 14% discount, though I’m unclear whether this is included in the trial, so I’ve also reached out to Google for clarification on this.

That’s it! Personally, I wouldn’t use most of these AI features, but 2 TB of cloud storage is enough to probably warrant a trial just for that. Just remember to either pay $20 per month after the year ends or cancel your subscription before then.
