Why You Shouldn’t Buy Soulja Boy’s AI-Powered Smart Glasses

Rapper and entrepreneur Soulja Boy, promising to “take your vision to the next level,” recently released a pair of so-called “AI-powered smart glasses.” For $64.50, you can get a pair that offers “hands-free music control, enhanced live performances, and seamless social media connectivity.” And if stylish and affordable AI-powered smart glasses for $64.50 seem too good to be true, they almost certainly are.

I’m not knocking Soulja Boy, and “Crank That” is an all-time hit, but I’m a smartglasses expert, and I wouldn’t recommend anyone buy them.

No, so smart.

Judging by the vague product description and stock photos, Soulja Boy is likely selling one of the many “AI-enabled smart glasses” that are essentially inexpensive Bluetooth headsets packaged in glasses. Take, for example, these Amazon deals for $37 or these AI-enabled glasses for under ten dollars . Heck, you can get glasses with a camera at Walmart for $55 .

Soulja Boy has a long history of selling tech products that aren’t as good as they seem, from Soulja Boy Bluetooth headphones to a portable gaming console and more. For example, the now-unavailable $300 Soulja Phone was apparently a Chinese Android smartphone sold for $200 . Soulja Boy’s previous gaming consoles were actually emulators that could be purchased cheaper elsewhere .

In other words, Soulja Boy is using his brand to promote existing products, selling them to dropshippers and inflating the price for the middleman. Soulja Boy’s previous products didn’t even bear his name, which seems to be the only reason to buy from Soulja Boy rather than Amazon, where they’re significantly cheaper.
