If You’re an Amazon Prime Member, You Might Be Eligible for a Refund.

If you signed up for an Amazon Prime subscription in the last few years, you may be eligible for a refund. Amazon recently settled a lawsuit with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) alleging deceptive signup and cancellation practices, including signing up customers for Prime without their consent and making it difficult to cancel. The company now plans to pay affected consumers $1.5 billion in restitution.

Here’s who’s eligible and how to make sure you get your money.

Am I eligible for a refund for Amazon Prime?

Refunds will be issued to select Amazon Prime subscribers in the US. To be eligible, you must also meet the following criteria:

You may also like

  • You registered your Prime account between June 23, 2019 and June 23, 2025.

  • You signed up through a “complicated sign-up process” (Prime’s universal decision page, shipping selection page, one-page checkout, or Prime Video sign-up process) OR you tried to cancel your Prime subscription between the dates above and were unsuccessful.

  • You have used no more than three Amazon Prime benefits in any 12-month period after signing up.

If you signed up for Amazon Prime before or after this period, or used another method of registration, this agreement does not apply to you.

How to Get a Refund for Amazon Prime

In most cases, you won’t need to take any action. If you qualify, Amazon will automatically refund your Amazon Prime membership until December 25, 2025, up to $51.

Some Amazon Prime customers who aren’t eligible for automatic refunds may still be able to receive a portion of their agreement. If you signed up through the contested registration process and used up to 10 Prime benefits in any 12-month period, you may receive a claim form from Amazon via email in early 2026. You’ll need to submit your claim within 180 days to receive a refund.

As Mashable notes , payments may be distributed among other Amazon Prime customers if the entire settlement amount isn’t exhausted in the first two stages, though those refunds will likely occur later.
