You Can Finally Share Tweets on Snapchat

Twitter and Snapchat are technically competitors in the social media marketplace, but the two companies recently joined forces to make it easier to tweet on Snapchats. A new cross-platform sharing option is available for Twitter on iOS right now, and it’s coming to Android soon.

Until now, the only way to share tweets on Snap has been to take a screenshot in the Twitter app, open Snapchat, start a new post, and then find and import the image. But with this new cross-platform integration, Snapchat pops up whenever you click to share a tweet on the Twitter app, and clicking the Snapchat icon downloads the tweet straight to Snapchat. This is a definite upgrade from using multiple apps and menus to post a screenshot.

You can add just about any tweet to your Snapchat or historical messages – be it your own tweet on someone else’s – except for tweets from private accounts. Shared tweets appear in your Snapchat messages as stickers that you can move and resize, and they automatically include links to open the original tweet on Twitter. Snapchat will also update your post with a notification if the tweet you shared has been deleted or made private.

Here’s a simple step-by-step guide on how to do it:

  1. In the Twitter app, tap the post icon on the tweet you want to share.
  2. Select “Snapchat Camera” from the share menu.
  3. Snapchat will open on the camera screen with the tweet already loaded as a sticker.
  4. Add or take a photo / video, and then customize the photo.
  5. Click “Submit” button when you are ready to post a message.

I suspect the process will be the same for Android users when the new tweet option is available there; until then, you will have to rely on the classic screenshot-not-publish method.

Interestingly, Reuters reports that Twitter is planning a similar feature for Instagram on iOS, but initially only for a small group of test users. Testing a feature doesn’t necessarily mean it will be available for public release, but it would be great if cross-platform sharing options like this were available in more apps.
