Until September 2024, any Apple user interested in AirPods with active noise cancellation (ANC) would have had to shell out $250 for AirPods Pro (they currently retail for $197). With the release of AirPods 4 with ANC, this technology has become much more accessible—and now these $179 earbuds can be purchased for $118.99 , a record low, according to price tracking tools . This price makes the budget version of the AirPods 4 without ANC irrelevant, as they cost $117 (originally $129), a difference of just $2.
AirPods 4 feature updated USB-C charging. Both models feature the Apple H2 chip, which delivers personalized spatial audio (so you can hear sounds as if they’re coming from different directions when you move your head) and the ability to use head gestures to answer “yes” or “no” to Siri (this also works for answering or rejecting calls). Apple added live translation to Active Noise Cancellation with the release of iOS 26 earlier this year.
If you purchase AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), you’ll get a charging case with a built-in speaker that can be used with Find My to locate your AirPods if you lose them. You’ll also get features like Conversation Awareness, which lowers the music volume when your AirPods detect you’re talking to someone; Transparency Mode, which allows you to better hear your surroundings when the AirPods are in place; and Adaptive Audio (combines ANC and Transparency Mode to adjust the ANC level based on ambient noise). Keep in mind that since these are open-back headphones, without a silicone tip for better noise blocking, the ANC won’t be as good as the AirPods Pro or Beats Fit Pro .
Both versions feature IP54 dust and water resistance, provide up to five hours of listening time on a single charge (up to 30 hours with the charging case), and support automatic pairing with other Apple devices.
