Take Free Dance Lessons From the Rockettes Until December 23
Like many events this year, Rockettes Radio City’s annual Christmas show has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether it was part of your holiday tradition, you can still be intrigued by these invariably attractive and talented dancers. You may have even wondered if you could do one of their signature high kicks. Well, now is your chance because the Rockettes offer free virtual dance lessons during the holiday season. Here’s what you need to know.
How and when to take dance lessons
To find lessons, visit Rockettes’ Instagram Live every Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET. Lessons usually last 50 to 60 minutes, starting with a 15-minute warm-up session and ending with a Q&A session. The last lesson is December 23rd. If you’ve missed any of the previous lessons and want to catch up, they all post to their main Instagram feed.
The lessons are for everyone, but some are more difficult than others. For example, the Wooden Soldier Parade (led by Rockett Melinda Möller ) is suitable for beginners, while other classes such as Christmas Dreams (led by Rockett Danelli Morgan ) are more advanced in terms of technique.
This is why Morgan suggests changing the moves to suit your skill level. “If the hit seems too high for you, bring it down to your own level, ” she told Shape . “If the pace seems too fast, slow it down and make it more accessible. Just keep in mind that there is nothing wrong with doing things at your own pace. “
Even if you have no interest in dancing, these activities involve some serious workout, so get ready to sweat. “The thing about Rockette’s choreography is that it’s our job to make it easy, but it really isn’t,” warns Morgan.
