If you’ve been eyeing a big-screen TV but have been waiting for prices to become reasonable, now might be the time. The 77-inch LG C5 OLED Evo TV has dropped in price to $2,150, down from nearly $3,700—a surprising price considering it’s only been released a few months. Positioned just below the flagship LG G5 , the C5 shares many of the same technologies without the premium design. Reviewers, including CNET , praised its realistic contrast, vibrant colors, and sharp motion, but agreed that the price was a bit steep at launch. Now that the price has dropped, that concern has been addressed.
In terms of performance, the C5 makes a compelling case for OLED fans who want higher brightness without sacrificing perfect black levels. Thanks to the LG OLED Evo panel, it’s noticeably brighter than older C-series models (like the C3 or C4 ), reaching 870 nits in HDR scenes, but still falls short of the G5 or Samsung’s QLEDs . Still, its brightness is more than sufficient for most living rooms. For gamers, the C5 is a dream: 4K resolution at 120Hz, four HDMI 2.1 ports, VRR, G-Sync, and FreeSync support. You can connect multiple consoles and still get a smooth image with minimal input lag.
It also comes with webOS 24, LG’s latest smart TV platform, which now includes five years of guaranteed software updates, which is reassuring if you plan to keep it for a long time. The Magic Remote (still a wand-like pointer) remains one of the most intuitive TV remotes available and works with Alexa and Google Assistant for voice commands. You get Dolby Vision, HDR10, and the new Alpha 9 AI Processor Gen8, which uses machine learning to upscale older content and fine-tune color and tone scene by scene. There’s also Filmmaker Mode, which disables unnecessary processing to preserve the director’s intent for a more natural film experience. However, while Dolby Atmos support helps, the C5 ‘s built-in speakers can’t quite match its visual impact. A soundbar or external setup is recommended.
