Apple’s Best IPad (for Most People) Is Still 20% Off Until Prime Day Ends Tonight.

Amazon’s Big Deal Days promotion ends tonight, October 8th, but until then, Lifehacker will be sharing the best sales based on product reviews, comparisons, and price tracking tools.

If you’re looking for an iPad, you have no shortage of options. Apple now sells several powerful iPads with the same components as a Mac. But while all Apple iPads are excellent in their own right, most of us don’t need the extra features, hardware, or functionality offered by these more expensive tablets. In fact, most of us would probably be perfectly happy with Apple’s entry-level iPad β€”the very name of the iPad.

If this applies to you, you’re in luck. Just a few hours ago, you could save 20% on Apple’s newest iPad. Apple sells this tablet for $349, but during the final hours of October’s Prime Day, you can snag it for $279.

Apple’s entry-level iPad doesn’t feel like one. It features an 11-inch display with minimal bezels. It fits neatly alongside Apple’s other, more premium iPads, without the extra cost. The tablet features a single 12-megapixel camera on the back, and a 12-megapixel selfie camera on the front. The camera is positioned on the landscape side of the iPad, rather than the portrait side you’re used to. This makes it easier to frame the image during video calls when the iPad is held in the same orientation as a laptop display.

This iPad is powered by the A16 chip, which is why some call it the iPad A16. This same chip is found in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15, and while it’s not the most powerful hardware Apple has installed in its iPads, it handles the apps you’re likely to use on your tablet just fine. Unless you plan on running graphically demanding apps or playing very demanding games, the A16 chip will handle iPadOS without a hitch.

What do you think at the moment?

While this iPad works perfectly well without it, you can add additional accessories to it. The Apple Pencil is indispensable for those who want to use their iPad for drawing or taking handwritten notes, and the Apple Magic Keyboard Folio turns the iPad into a real laptop.

Essentially, the only downside to this iPad for most users, in my opinion, is the amount of internal storage. This tablet only comes with 128GB of storage, which can quickly fill up if you store a lot of photos, videos, and files on the device. If you need more space, you can upgrade to the 256GB version , which is currently 16% off during Prime Day ($379, down from $449). If you know most of your data is stored in the cloud or accessed via streaming video, 128GB is probably more appropriate. But $379 is a good price to future-proof your iPad.
