Four Big Announcements I Expect to See at Meta Connect 2025

Did you know you can set up Google to filter out junk? Follow these steps to improve your search results, including adding my work on Lifehacker as a preferred source .
Meta Connect 2025, Meta’s annual, massive, two-day event focused on emerging technologies, will kick off with CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s keynote on September 17 at 8 p.m. ET and run through September 18. You can watch the keynote and developer conference live on Facebook or on the official Meta Connect website .
Predicting event announcements is naturally full of speculation, but it’s educated speculation based on online rumors and sources that have confirmed previous leaks and rumors. If you’re planning on keeping an eye on the event, or just want to get an idea of what might happen, here’s what I expect to see at Meta Connect 2025.
Smart glasses Hypernova
The biggest buzz at Meta Connect 2025 will likely be the next generation of Meta smart glasses, codenamed “Hypernova” or possibly “Meta Celeste.” According to online rumors , the next Meta glasses will feature a dedicated display on one lens for notifications and mini-apps, as well as all the AI, audio, and camera/video features found in the current generation of Meta Ray-Ban and Meta Oakley smart glasses. All of this will be accomplished via a wireless wristband that will allow you to control various features of the glasses with a flick of your wrist.
The glasses with the display will retail for $799, but there’s no word yet on when they’ll hit the market. Sources say they’ll be available this month (it would have been nice if Zuckerberg had added “…and they’ll be available tonight” at the end of his keynote), but it could be as late as this fall. They’ll be a step up in smart glasses, but they won’t be the full-blown augmented reality experience Meta has been showing off with its Orion smart glasses .
New details about Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta third-generation smart glasses
If you’re more interested in an improved version of the Meta Ray-Bans and Meta Oakleys, the Meta Connect site may be leaking details about the third-generation Meta smart glasses . Aside from expected improvements like longer battery life and possibly an improved camera, the most important new feature of the Meta glasses may be an improvement in their artificial intelligence.
Meta’s advanced AI, dubbed “super sensor” by the company, will work longer by seeing what you see and interpreting that data. Your glasses could tell you if you left the oven on or where you left your car keys (the single most exciting feature I’m looking forward to in smart glasses). Another rumored addition to Meta’s AI is facial recognition (another feature I’d use all the time ).
Smart glasses technology that can tell who you’re looking at already exists, but Meta is reportedly wary of using it for privacy reasons. Meta’s third-generation smart glasses are expected to go on sale this fall.
Third-Party Apps for Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta Glasses
If third-party app support for Meta smart glasses is announced at Connect 2025, it could happen during the developer’s Future of Computing keynote, which takes place on September 18 at 1 p.m. ET. Meta opening up its smart glasses to third-party apps could be the biggest announcement of the show, as it will expand the capabilities of your glasses in ways you’ve never imagined.
New Improvements in Meta Horizon OS
There doesn’t appear to be any hard evidence that Meta will announce the Quest 4 VR headset at Connect 2025, but that doesn’t mean the Virtual Reality Gang will be left out. Tech site VRUpload recently did some data mining and found evidence that Meta is planning to update both the Home and Worlds sections of Meta Horizon.
Meta is supposedly reworking the “starting space” for Quest users, moving it from a static state to something that “makes it easier to connect with others and seamlessly transition into Horizon Worlds and immersive apps.” Other potential Horizon Worlds announcements include a more responsive and engaging Horizon Worlds social hub, as well as a new theater venue in Horizon Worlds called the Events Arena. If you want to follow along live, you can watch Connect 2025 on Facebook or on the official Meta Connect website .
