Notion Finally Lets You Edit Files Offline, but You’ll Have to Enable the Feature Manually

There’s one feature that fans of the popular note-taking service Notion have been waiting for a long time. No, it’s not website management or even artificial intelligence. It’s a simple offline editing feature. Until now, Notion required an active internet connection to fully use. That was enough in most cases, but what if you need to quickly edit a document on the train or upload something to your travel plans while out of coverage?

These features set Notion apart from other apps like Obsidian or even Apple’s Notes app. Now, Notion is finally adding offline editing . But it may not work as expected.

You might expect that when offline, all your documents will appear the same as they did the last time Notion was online. You can make changes so that the next time you connect to the internet, those changes will be synced with Notion. Unfortunately, instead, you’ll have to be more proactive and enable this feature for specific documents before going offline.

How to Enable and Use Notion Offline

Offline mode in Notion requires some effort . If you use Notion for free, you’ll need to enable offline mode for individual Notion pages and documents to view them without an internet connection. If you pay for Notion and are on the Plus, Business, or Enterprise plans, Notion will do some of the work for you, but not all of it. For these accounts, Notion will automatically download your recent and favorite pages, but you’ll still need to download them manually to view other pages offline.

You can do this in both the Notion desktop and mobile apps. Open the Notion page you want to edit offline, then tap the three-dot menu button. Toggle on Available Offline . You’ll see a progress bar as the page loads.

Notion’s settings menu also has a dedicated Offline section where you can see all the pages you’ve downloaded. To delete a downloaded page, click the three-dot menu button next to the page list and select Delete Offline Page . If you’re a paid Notion user, you can also disable the automatic downloads feature here.
