The Easiest Way to Upload Short Videos to Discord Without Nitro

Want to quickly upload a video to Discord but don’t have a paid account? Handbrake just added a new feature to quickly convert short videos into files that don’t exceed the maximum upload size.
Discord limits the upload size for free users (i.e. anyone who doesn’t pay for Nitro or Nitro Basic) to 10MB. This can make uploading even the shortest videos impossible, as they tend to be quite a bit larger. However, Handbrake , a free and open-source video converter app available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, recently added a special preset for Discord users. It can be used to convert short videos under 10MB. Note that you’ll need the latest version of Handbrake, 1.10.0 at the time of writing, to use the presets.
To get started, install Handbrake and point it at the video you want to convert. Handbrake supports videos up to 30 seconds, one minute, or one minute and 30 seconds long (anything longer will be too compressed to update). Select the preset that best suits the video you want to convert and click the Start button. The app will begin working, creating a video that you can upload to Discord.
After that, you should have a file under 10MB in your Downloads folder (assuming you haven’t specified a different save location). You can play it to check the quality, then drag it into Discord.
I found this to be a pretty quick way to upload a video to Discord without spending money on Nitro. Sure, there are other workarounds — like uploading the video to Dropbox or YouTube and sharing the link — but this method is just as fast and doesn’t require a third-party service. It’s also more private, since you don’t have to copy the link to quickly share the video. If you use Discord regularly, you might want to remember this trick.
